Physical Education is an integral part of life at Phoenix Primary School. From developing fundamental motor skills in the early years to refining the skills required for organised competition in the senior years, our program supports every student’s growth, confidence and enjoyment of physical activity.
Each class participates in a Physical Education lesson once a week. Students in Years 4–6 also take part in senior sport on Fridays. During these sessions, teams train and prepare for upcoming interschool carnivals held each term. Team selections are made following a series of training sessions, with all students given equal opportunity and encouraged to participate, challenge themselves and strive to do their best.
Throughout the year, we invite professional coaches to run before-school coaching sessions. These opportunities vary across the year and have previously included gymnastics, taekwondo, tennis, ultimate frisbee, squash and lacrosse. These sessions are provided free of charge, although some sports may have limited places due to numbers.
We also enjoy connecting our students to major global sporting events such as the Australian Open, the Olympics and the World Cup by hosting our own school-based versions. These events create excitement, build school spirit and provide fun lunchtime activities for students. We are especially grateful to our dedicated Sports Captains, who take great pride in setting up and supporting these events.
